Residents of Graceland, a fast-growing high-brow neighbourhood of a federal-owned Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, N.C.A.T, are seeking the face of God on planned demolition of over 500 houses by Governor Nasir El-rufai’s Government
Already bulldozers have been stationed at the entrance to the area by the Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Agency KASUPDA
Some residents who took to the streets on Sunday, October 3, say KADUPDA is set to demolish about 500 houses in Graceland, Zaria in less than 24 hours.
According to KASUPDA, the houses earmarked for demolition which include massive buildings belonging to the Roman catholic Church, Dunamis international Church, Shopping malls, are said to be built on land belonging to the Nigeria College of Aviation Technology, Zaria.
The protesting residents say there have been tension since Friday when the notice was served that residents are given 48 hours to evacuate their properties.
They say despite a court judgment against NCAT and KASUPDA, Governor El-rufai’s government is still bent on carryinv out the demolition.
Some of the protesting resident who include professors, Retired military officers, clergymen, Lecturers and businessmen and women, say they wonder why would El-rufai be bent on securing land for a federal Agency and suspect foil play in the whole process.
Despite committing the situation to God after Sunday church service they say the believe the judicial system will not fail them while calling on president Muhammadu Buhari to call Governor El-rufai and NCAT managent to order immediately.
However Director, the General of KASUPDA Samaila Dikko confirmed that the demolition will be carried out.
